April 16. Bucharest. Literary translation masterclass organized for graduates from the University of Bucharest English Department. The end of a week-long translation workshop organized by the Romanian Cultural Institute.
April 18, Bucharest. English recital of Eminescu translations by their author A.G.Sahlean at the Romanian Cultural Institute Headquarters, a premier in his native country. Special guests included Mirel Talos (vice president of RCI); Denisa Comanescu (editor of the 2000 volume "Eminescu - Selected Poems"); Ion Caramitru (actor and director of Romanian National Theatre - the most celebrated reciter of the poet in Romanian); various writers, actors, musicians, and anglicists.
April 23 - May 06, Craiova, Romania. Participation at the biannual International Shakespeare Festival. Apart from theater performances, the festival gathered Shakespeare scholars from around the world with daily seminar presentations.
May 06, Craiova, Romania. Performance at the International Shakespeare Festival by Mr. Sahlean (guitar/voice) with Elizabethan music from Shakespearean plays and movies.
May 08, Bucharest. Interview for RTV International on Eminescu translations and Global Arts activities in the US. The video was part of a program on Romanians in the Diaspora successfully promoting Romania's cultural and artistic values.
May 11-12, Bucharest. Film shooting for a documentary (to be released at a future time) featuring the translator introducing fragments from Eminescu poems in English to random people in the streets of Bucharest. The sundry shooting places included the railway station, street corners, a suspended bridge, a bistro, and a few other unexpected places.
May 11-12, Bucharest. Film shooting (continued). The project - conceived by journalist and poet Gia Maria Iova and filmed by Paul Stefanescu, also featured model Cristina Gagiu in acting scenes with Adrian G. Sahlean.
December 1, Hartford, CT. Romania’s Centennial Celebration at the Connecticut State Capitol with State Representative Peter Tercyakstate, international diplomats, Honorary Consul Dana Bucin, local business representatives, and massive Romanian-American community participation. Mr. Sahlean recited his translation of Eminescu's Glossa to the English speaking audience, offering a glimpse into the poet's genius and importance for Romania's culture. The celebration included the raising of the Romanian flag to the top of the Capitol.
